An Eagle Scout award ceremony was held at the Lower Macungie Community Center Aug. 4 where three Boy Scouts were honored for their achievements.
The three, all members of Troop 71 in Macungie, are Brandon Shoemaker, Mark Wolff and Chris Picarello.
Troop 71 has been chartered by Solomon's United Church of Christ in Macungie for over 83 years and has had 64 Scouts advance to Eagle during this time.
The final requirement to achieve this ranking is a final project developed by each candidate. Shoemaker's project was the repair of the Stichter Pavilion in Macungie Memorial Park. Wolff's was the construction of a new greenhouse in the outdoor garden classroom for the East Coventry Elementary School, in Pottstown, while Picarello's project involved the renovation of the multi-purpose room at Solomon's U.C.C.
Scoutmaster Robert Smigielski began the ceremony by welcoming everyone and an invocation was given by Chaplain Jeff Bauer.
The keynote speaker for the ceremony was the Honorable Judge Douglas Reichley who reinforced the importance of Scouting and Scouts as role models for today's youth.
State Representative Ryan Mackenzie, R-134th, was also in attendance and presented each new Eagle Scout with a letter from the House of Representatives.
