Kids to face PHS again

For Northampton’s football team in their 39-17 loss to Bethlehem Catholic last week, it just was one of those games.

“We just didn’t come out ready to play,” deadpanned Konkrete Kids’ head coach John Toman. “That’s on me. For whatever reason we came out flat.”

The sixth-seeded Kids (5-5) will travel to third-seeded Parkland (8-2) in an opening-round district Class 6A quarterfinal game.

Against Bethlehem Catholic, Kids’ senior running back Chase Kessler ran for 101 yards against the Golden Hawks, Robert Wambold ran for 37 yards with a score, and Dominique Mosley ran for 22 yards with a touchdown.

The Kids employed quarterbacks senior Zion McKinney and sophomore Luke Stopay. McKinney ran for 20 yards, and completed two of three passes for 17 yards. Stopay completed five of 15 attempts for 41 yards.

Stopay also believed his club didn’t have a good performance, and also needs to improve his own showing.

“I think we came out very flat and that can’t happen ever but especially against a very good team,” said Stopay. “From where I’m at, I need to do a better job at getting the guys fired up and getting the offense going.”

Beca raced out to a 25-3 halftime lead, and Northampton tallied two scores in the fourth quarter.

Overall, it was a bad night.

“We had some unfortunate things happen like their punt hitting our guy that led to their first touchdown,” added Toman. “It’s never easy to dig out of a hole.”

Stopay is confident his team can clean up their mistakes against Parkland.

“We need to be better all-around and move on to Parkland,” said Stopay. “We need to fly around all game and limit the mistakes.”
