BC to D-11 finals, Liberty eyes berth

Bethlehem Catholic is one win away from another District 11 volleyball championship, while Liberty is looking to earn its way into the Class 6A final.

The Golden Hawks will face Northwestern in Tuesday’s District 11 4A championship, giving Becahi an opportunity to win back-to-back district crowns.

Head coach Jess Attieh said the team’s experience and chemistry have helped make this group special.

“I think what makes this group special is the way they care about each other and how invested they are in the team’s success,” Attieh said. “We have a lot of experience and leadership, but we also have a group that’s willing to work, hold each other accountable, and put the team first.”

Attieh said the players’ willingness to compete, improve and support one another has been a major part of the team’s success.

“They’re competitive, they enjoy being around each other, and they genuinely want to get better,” she said. “The talent is important, but the chemistry, trust, and willingness to work together are what make this group fun to coach and give us the opportunity to do something special.”

The Golden Hawks will need that combination against Northwestern, which stands between them and another district championship. The Hawks have made easy work through the 4A tournament so far, sweeping Jim Thorpe and Notre Dame in the process.

Attieh said the key will be playing a complete match and staying disciplined in the important moments.

“Northwestern is a very good team, and beating them is going to take a complete team effort,” Attieh said. “We need to serve aggressively, be disciplined defensively, and take care of the ball in transition.”

Attieh also believes the Golden Hawks’ challenging EPC schedule has helped prepare them for the postseason.

“Those matches force us to make adjustments, compete under pressure, and learn how to win when things aren’t always going our way,” she said. “That experience is invaluable when you get into tournament play.”

Meanwhile, Liberty is working toward its own postseason opportunity in 6A.

The Hurricanes swept Stroudsburg in their district opener and now face Emmaus in the semifinals, with a spot in Wednesday’s championship match on the line. Liberty swept Emmaus during the regular season, but will need another strong performance to keep its postseason run going.
