Lehigh Valley housing sales down 6.1% in September

Closed Sales decreased 6.1% in September, according to Greater Lehigh Valley Realtors’ (GLVR) data reported in an Oct. 15 press release.

GLVR reported “continued growth in housing inventory in September, while closed sales declined and home prices remained higher than a year ago,” the press release stated.

“Inventory moving in the right direction is encouraging and gives buyers more options than they had a year ago,” said GLVR CEO Justin Porembo.

“At the same time, our market remains well below what would be considered a balanced supply. Continued inventory growth is important to easing competition, improving affordability and creating a healthier housing market over the long term,” Porembo said.

GLVR President Cliff Lewis said the September numbers reflect a market that remains competitive even as sales activity has slowed:

“Buyers may have a little more breathing room than they did a year ago, but well-priced homes are still moving quickly and sellers continue to hold a strong position in many parts of the market.

“That makes it especially important for buyers and sellers to understand what is happening in their specific price range and neighborhood and work with a Realtor who can help them navigate those conditions,” said Lewis.
