SHS boys soccer secures CL playoff spot

Wins in the middle of a season count just as much as wins early and late.

Salisbury’s boys soccer team beat Bangor a couple of weeks ago and it turned out to be the game that locked up a playoff spot for the Falcons.

The win gave the Falcons the tiebreaker against the Slaters, the only team that could have potentially knocked them out of the league playoffs.

A 2-1 win at Catasauqua recently eliminated Bangor because it can do no better to tie Salisbury’s season record, which improved to 7-4-2 in league games.

That earlier win would be the tiebreaker, guaranteeing Salisbury the playoff spot.

In the win over Catasauqua, Salisbury got goals from Joshua Arias-Evangelista and Nick Laziridis.

The Colonial League soccer playoffs begin on Oct. 19 and feature the top eight teams in the league based on their league records. District playoffs begin a week later.

While the Falcons are in the league playoffs, where they will be seeded is still up in the air.

A win over Southern Lehigh in their season finale would give the Falcons the fifth seed and a shot at moving up to the fourth seed, which would give them a home game in the first round of the playoffs. A loss or tie and they can end up seeded anywhere from fifth to eighth in the league depending on the fortunes of Northern Lehigh, Palisades, and Pen Argyl in their season finales.

Salisbury also has a spot waiting for it in the District 11 playoffs. With an overall record of 8-6-2, the Falcons are head into this week ranked eighth in the 2A classification
