Salisbury snaps skid with 34-20 win over Palisades
The Salisbury football team snapped a five-game skid with a 34-20 win over Palisades last Friday in Kintnersville.
The Falcons went ahead 14-7 in the first quarter, held a 21-7 lead at halftime and were up 27-6 heading into the fourth quarter before the Pirates scored a couple times in the final stanza.
Jadiel Gonzalez led the Falcons with seven receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown. He also picked off a pair of passes and returned both for touchdowns.
Gonzalez, a junior, has picked off five passes this season.
Salisbury quarterback Keaton Frye went 10-for-18 in the game with 157 passing yards and one touchdown. He also ran for a pair of touchdowns.
After a four-game stretch that saw the Falcons play teams that now have a combined win-loss record of 25-3, they took advantage of last week’s opportunity against a winless Pirates team and picked up their first win since opening night when they beat South Philadelphia.
Salisbury will try to start a winning streak Friday when it hosts Pen Argyl (2-5). The Knights are coming off a 30-13 loss to Catasauqua, who the Falcons will face in week 9.
Pen Argyl’s two wins this year came against Old Forge in the season opener and Wilson on Oct. 2. The Green Knights have also lost to Saucon Valley, Northern Lehigh, Notre Dame (Green Pond) and Palmerton.
After Pen Argyl, the Falcons will face Catasauqua (2-5) and Southern Lehigh (7-0) over the final two weeks of the season.
Through seven games Salisbury holds seventh place in the District 11 Class 3A rankings and is in position to reach the district playoffs for the second consecutive season.
The top eight Class 3A teams qualify for the district playoffs. With Pen Argyl holding ninth place in the district rankings, a win this week could all but seal a playoff spot for the Falcons.
