PHS extends win streak to six games
The Parkland High School football team has continued to roll along after a season-opening loss.
The Trojans won their sixth consecutive game last Friday, downing Dieruff 63-0 at Parkland Area School District Stadium in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Lehigh Division game.
The Trojans (6-1 overall, 4-0 conference) did most of their scoring in the opening half, scoring 28 points in the first quarter and adding another 21 points in the second quarter. They tacked on a touchdown in each of the final two quarters to cap the scoring.
There were several different Parkland players that found the end zone. Two quarterbacks in Finn Coen and Evan Deutsch both threw for a touchdown, connecting with Jackson Geroulo and Felix Li. Tycen Norman led a large group of eight running backs with 62 yards and two touchdowns. Jaren Sanchez, Deutsch, Henry Weikel and Christian Whitaker all recorded a rushing score.
Sanchez got the scoring going in the game with a 14 yard touchdown early in the first quarter. Geroulo then stepped up on defense and recorded an interception that he returned for a touchdown from 42 yards away. Norman recorded a one-yard touchdown before Coen connected with Geroulo from 21 yards away to end the first quarter scoring.
Weikel tallied an 11-yard touchdown to begin the second quarter and Norman scored from four yards away. Whitaker rounded out the first-half scoring with a three yard score as his team went up 49-0 at the intermission.
Defensively, Michael Peter led the unit with seven tackles and Donato Ciampittiello finished with six tackles.
After two straight home games, Parkland will hit the road to take on Central Catholic this Friday at J. Birney Crum Stadium. The Vikings (5-2, 4-0) enter the game on a four-game win streak after a 31-6 victory over Allen last Friday. They also have wins over Emmaus, Easton and East Stroudsburg South.
