Falcon field hockey extends win streak to seven games
The Salisbury field hockey team continues to play well and has a seven-game unbeaten streak after recent wins against Palisades and Saucon Valley.
The win streak puts the Falcons at 9-1-1 overall and 8-0-1 in Colonial League play. Salisbury has already locked up a district playoff spot and leads the South Division and the overall standings in the league.
Four different players scored goals in a 5-1 win over Palisades with junior Ella Morgans scoring twice and Charlotte Harpster, Ava Morgans and Ellie Schneider all scoring single goals for the Falcons.
Defense was the key in a 2-1 win over Saucon Valley with goalie Olivia Wilde making seven saves for Salisbury. Schneider and Anna Grubb scored the Falcons’ goals in that gamy.
This week could determine a lot in the league standings for Salisbury as it plays three games, all of which are against strong league opponents.
The week starts with Southern Lehigh (7-3-0, 7-1-0) before a trip to New Tripoli for a game against Northwestern Lehigh (7-3-1, 7-1-1). The game against the Tigers, which is a rematch of last year’s Colonial League championship, was supposed to be the first game of the season, but torrential rains and lightning hit just as the teams were about to take the field. Northwestern beat the Falcons to win the league championship last season.
After a day off, Salisbury goes up against Bangor (10-2-0, 8-2-0) in another key Colonial League game. The Falcons and Slaters are battling for the top spot in the District 11 2A classification.
In 11 games this season the Salisbury defense has allowed just 10 goals.
The only game it allowed more than one goal was in a 3-0 loss to District 3’s Oley Valley, the Falcons’ only loss on the season.
Offensively, the Falcons have put 50 goals on the board, have not been shutout and have scored two or more goals in all but two games – the loss to Oley Valley and a 1-1 tie against Pen Argyl.
