The 17th annual Barktoberfest Fair and Pet Blessing brought pet owners and animal lovers from across the Lehigh Valley to Macungie Memorial Park Oct. 10 for an afternoon of activities, fellowship and blessings for beloved pets.
The event was organized by Paws for Fun President Roberta Moyer and Pastor Samantha Brennan of Grace Lutheran Church in Macungie. Held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the fair featured a free dog agility course, pet-related vendors and the annual pet blessing ceremony.
Designed as a peaceful, family-friendly gathering, the event intentionally avoided loud music, allowing the sounds of dogs, cats and visitors to fill the park.
The pet blessing honored St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment, while recognizing the special bond between people and their pets.
The ceremony included prayers for the animals’ health and well-being, followed by individual blessings offered by Brennan, who moved among participants and their pets.
