HALF DAYS: All BASD schools dismiss early Oct. 14. HS: 11 a.m.; MS: 11:30 a.m.; ES: noon. On Oct. 28, HS dismisses at 11 a.m. and MS at 11:30 a.m.

LEARNING DISABILITIES: October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month. BASD recognizes students’ individual strengths and learning needs and promotes an inclusive school community.

BULLYING PREVENTION: October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Students are encouraged to stand up against bullying, speak out and choose kindness.

BUDDY PROGRAM: Eighth graders and teachers Mr. Podhyski, Mrs. Kutz and Mrs. Sobrinski welcomed their Moravian Village of Bethlehem buddies back for the school year, reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new members.

100 DAYS: Last Thursday marked 100 days since Dr. Renato M. Lajara became BASD superintendent. He has visited classrooms, cheered on student-athletes and met with families, staff and community partners to learn about the district and build connections.

SIX SIDES: Upper Campus students explored their identities through the “Six Sides of Me” project, creating a honeycomb that connected shared traits and interests.

MORAVIAN ACADEMY

FINANCIAL AID: A virtual financial assistance webinar is scheduled for noon to 1 p.m. Oct. 16.

FIRE SAFETY: Swain Campus students visited Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company No. 31 for Fire Prevention Month. They toured the station, explored fire trucks, sprayed a hose and met the fire chief. Students were encouraged to check their homes’ smoke detectors.

FOUNDERS DAY: The Swain Campus will celebrate the founding of D. Esther Swain’s school in 1929 at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 21. Activities include student musical performances, school history, a kindergarten pinning ceremony and tree planting.

TENNIS HONORS: Vicky Guo, Class of 2028, placed second, and Annemarie Andres, Class of 2027, placed third at the District XI Class 2A Girls’ Singles Tennis Championships. They will compete together in the doubles championship next week.

OPEN HOUSE: The Merle-Smith Campus will host an open house at 5 p.m. Oct. 22.

WINTER MUSICAL: The 2027 winter musical will be “Pippin,” with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Roger O. Hirson. Performances are Feb. 26-27 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.

TRUNK OR TREAT: The Swain Campus Beginning School will hold trunk-or-treat at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 30. A second Swain Campus event is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m.

HALLOWEEN PARADE: The HDC Halloween Parade begins at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 30. Students in prekindergarten through third grade will parade around God’s Acre; students in grades four through eight will watch along the pathways. Parents and guests are welcome. Classroom parties will follow.

PARENT GATHERING: The HDC Family Association invites HDC parents and guardians and Merle-Smith Campus senior parents to a gathering in the CE Auditorium from 2 to 3 p.m. Oct. 30.

NOTRE DAME ES

SCHOOL CLOSURE: School will be closed Oct. 12.

STUFFED ANIMALS: Preschool through second-grade students celebrated St. Francis of Assisi’s feast day with a stuffed animal blessing at the Grotto. Monsignor Baddick led a prayer and blessed the toys with holy water. St. Francis is the patron saint of animals and the environment.

ST. ANNE’S SCHOOL

BASKETBALL REGISTRATION: CYO basketball registration is open to players of all skill levels. The program emphasizes basketball skills, teamwork, friendship and fun.
