Liberty’s No. 3 singles player Polina Dorman won the fourth place medal at the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Girls Tennis Tournament on Oct. 1 at Freedom High School.
“It feels great. I’m really happy, really happy,” said the Hurricane senior.
Dorman won her first match of the day against Stroudsburg’s Maddie Reeder, 8-5.
“I lost that match in the regular season, and I knew I had grown as a player, so I was a better player today,” Dorman said. “I knew that match would make me a medalist or not, so I said all or nothing for this match.”
Dorman’s semifinal match was a 10-1 loss to Allentown Central Catholic’s Giada Montone.
Dorman then competed against Parkland’s Kiana Miles in the consolation match.
“Mentally, I knew I was already getting a medal, and I just wanted to have fun,” said Dorman. “I took my risks. I never go to the net to volley, but I was like, might as well do it now, and it worked out for two games.
Third singles is so many long rallies. It’s tough to hit a winner in that, but you just have to have stamina and continue hitting consistently.”
Dorman led, 1-0, and, 2-1, but ultimately lost to Miles, 8-3.
Freedom’s No. 2 doubles players Katie Nenna and Alexa Holder also won the fourth place medal after winning their quarterfinal match by injury forfeit to Stroudsburg’s Ella Finlayson and Izabella Gembicki.
