LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Mama’s Musings - October 6

Happy to be back at my day job. I missed being there. I also missed getting farm fresh eggs from a coworker. Thankfully, I now have two dozen fresh eggs in my fridge.

I’m trying to rely less on the cane. Some days are good, some are not. One of the most difficult thing with nerve damage is getting dressed. Buttons are the worst. But just getting clothed takes longer.

I am fully off the new liver medication. And glad of it. Whenever you start a new medicine, be sure you’re aware of any and all side effects.

I did an assignment for the paper. I was proud of myself for not using the cane. Even taking photos can be hard. But I managed, and that felt awesome.

My right ring finger has been twitching. That’s another good sign. It means the nerves are waking up. My physical therapist said the ring finger is the weakest finger, so the twitch was welcome.

My youngest decided he is over trick or treating. I’m a little sad, because last year he didn’t get far on crutches. He doesn’t really eat much candy, so I respect his decision. I’m also glad I won’t have to limp along behind him. Though Halloween is my favorite holiday, I could do with a quiet one this year.

We have another short vacation scheduled, and I am excited. Though I have work and physical therapy to get through first. I do a lot of hand exercises at home too. Again, some days are better than others. Even so, I feel like I am improving overall. Which is good, because I did not know what would happen when it started. And above all, I am not ready to retire, neither financially or mentally. I believe I still have a lot to give, and do. I had a bit of a scare when I passed a physical training at the lowest level. That didn’t feel good. But I self advocated, and am still employed, and I’m thankful for that.
