Ivy J. Knight
Ivy J. (Slaughter) Knight, 89, of New Tripoli, died Sept. 15, 2026, at Phoebe Health and Rehabilitation Center, Allentown.
She was the wife of the late Silsby H. “Pete” Knight.
Born on a farm in the western prairies of Tappen, North Dakota, on Oct. 16, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Ida (Haadem) Slaughter.
She earned her teaching certificate from Dickinson College and taught in a one-room schoolhouse in North Dakota in the late 1950s.
She later traveled east with her sister, Alta, and brother-in-law, Robert Baldwin, and ultimately met her husband while working as a credit manager for Montgomery Ward.
Following this, she served as an executive and cofounder of HIMI in New Tripoli alongside Pete.
In the 1970s and 1980s she served as a Sunday school teacher at Ebenezer Union Church and was a Cub Scout den mother in the Minsi Trails Council.
In the 1990s, she was a Worthy Matron and member of the Order of the Eastern Star, formerly in the Slatington Chapter.
She enjoyed traveling, cooking, knitting, dancing, horseback riding on her horse, Champ, and listening to music — particularly Elvis and Moe Bandy.
She is survived by son, Peter H. Knight and his wife, Jolanta of Kempton; cousins, Beverly Wentz of Peoria Ariz., Monakay Haadem of Tappen, N.D., Gayann Haadem of Bismark, N.D.; sister-in-law, Marie Slaughter of Alexandra, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews.;
She was predeceased by siblings and their spouses, Alta Baldwin (Robert), Areda Owens (Raymond), Curtis Slaughter (Laverne), Oren Slaughter (Josephine), Clarence Slaughter, Delane Slaughter (Janis), June Slaughter, Harold Slaughter.
A funeral service was held Sept. 21, at Ebenezer Church, 7293 Decatur St., New Tripoli.
Interment followed the service at Jacobs Church Cemetery, New Tripoli.
The Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., in Schnecksville, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
