Dr. Nevin W. Cope member of St. John’s United Church of Christ
Dr. Nevin W. Cope, 95, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the community, died Sept. 11, 2026.
Born on Jan. 18, 1931, in Bethlehem, he lived a life rich in generosity, dedication, and love.
He was the son of Harry and Lyle Cope, and stepson of Verna Cope.
From a young age, he exhibited a keen interest in learning and a profound sense of duty, which he carried throughout his life.
His academic journey began at Moravian College in Bethlehem, where he earned his Bachelor of Science.
He earned his DDS degree from Temple Dental School, Philadelphia, in 1956.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, he served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, in the Dental Department at Cherry Point, N.C.
For over four decades, from 1958 to 2002, he ran a successful dental practice in Fogelsville and Orefield.
He also served a term as president of the Lehigh Valley Dental Society, and was deeply respected by his peers.
His life was enriched by his involvement with the Boy Scouts of America.
A Vigil Member of the Order of the Arrow, a recipient of the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, and the Distinguished Scouter Award, he inspired countless young scouts with his leadership and commitment to the principles of scouting.
He was on the board of directors for the Boy Scout Fogelsville Group of Citizens for many years.
He was a long-standing member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fogelsville, a member of the Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Company and a free and accepted Mason.
Beyond his professional and community endeavors, he was an avid outdoorsman.
He also enjoyed woodworking, crafting pieces that his family will treasure for generations.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Bjork), of 74 years, his four children: David Cope (Liz), Karen Konapelsky (Mark), Dr. Dana Cope (Linda), and Ronald Cope (Kelly Jo), as well as stepsister, Betty Brandt.
He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He had many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings Evelyn Weidner, Robert Cope, Janice Yorgey, stepbrother William Weisel and beloved grandson, Jeb Albright.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 11, at Boy Scout Troop 72 Camp Spirit, 1718 Mulberry Road, Fogelsville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to Group of Citizens for Troop 72 and Pack 72, P.O. Box 72, Fogelsville, PA, 18051.
Dr. Nevin W. Cope’s life was a testament to the power of commitment, family, and community.
His final gift was to donate his body to science through Anatomy Gifts and Registry.
