LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STSD coffee and conversation event scheduled Oct. 5

Fall arrived at 8:05 p.m. Sept. 22 and with it came a weather roller coaster. To me, planning for weather in Pennsylvania in the fall goes a little like this: Monday, flip-flops and shorts, Tuesday, winter coat and thermal underwear, Wednesday rain gear and tools to build an ark, Thursday, tank top and sunscreen, Friday, snow boots and mittens.

The weather can be challenging but we also get to enjoy all four seasons — even if it is all in one week.

The Salisbury Township School District will offer residents a chance to ask questions, voice concerns and share ideas during the Common Grounds: Coffee and Conversation event which will be held 10 a.m. Oct. 5 in the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road, Allentown.

This is a great opportunity to meet with district leadership and local officials in an informal setting to talk about what matters most to you.

The Salisbury Elementary School PTO sponsored Color Run will take place 3-5 p.m. Oct. 3. Funds raised during the event support student programs and activities and feature a glow party and a colorful run/walk around the SES campus, 1400 Gaskill Ave.

Mark your calendar for Community Heroes Day at the Emmaus Public Library 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 1. First responders will be on hand to answer questions, provide safety tips and offer an up-close view of vehicles and gear. In the case of inclement weather a rain date of Oct. 15 has been set.

Salisbury Township will hold its first ever Trunk-or-Treat event 2-4 p.m. Oct. 31 on the grounds of Salisbury Middle School, 3301 Devonshire Road. The township is looking for residents, organizations and businesses who are interested in decorating a vehicle and handing out treats. Space is limited and registration is required by Oct. 16. If you would like to get in on the fun you can register at www.salisburylehighpa.gov/forms/trunk-or-treat-registration.

Join the Wildlands Conservancy for a moonlit hoot hike 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 16. Take a 1.5 mile hike into the woods at the Black River Sanctuary and search for owls and other nocturnal creatures. You’ll have a chance to listen for their calls and give hooting a try. Register at engage.wildlandspa.org/calendar/event/499.

The township’s yard waste drop-off centers are open for disposal of yard waste and branches. The Devonshire site will be open Oct. 1 and 3 and the Franko site will be open Oct. 5, 8 and 10. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
