The Parkland High School girls volleyball team started the 2026 regular season on a high note, winning its first two matches by straight-set sweeps. Each match was in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
The Trojans opened the season at home defeating Allen on Monday, Aug. 31, by scores of 25-8, 25-7, 25-9. They followed that up two nights later by taking down Central Catholic on the road by scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-13.
In the win over the Canaries, Sami Walls finished with 11 kills. Laila Coppedge recorded eight kills and Riley Schilling tallied six kills. Josee Kim contributed 20 assists and two aces, while Chloe Coonradt added three aces.
In the victory against the Vikettes, Gabby Nissen led the attack with 13 kills. Schilling totaled nine kills and both Walls and MJ Bhanji netted six kills.
Coppedge tacked on five kills. Kim finished with 20 assists, three aces and 10 digs and Alex Serina recorded 15 assists, 10 digs and one ace. Coonradt paced the defense with 16 digs.
Parkland has a busy week this week, even with the short week because of the holiday. The Trojans have three conference matches and then compete in a tournament over the weekend. They hosted Freedom this past Tuesday night and welcome Whitehall to town Thursday night, before traveling to take on Pocono Mountain West Friday evening.
Parkland will then compete in the Bulldog Invitational on Saturday at
Wilson West Lawn. The Trojans then host East Stroudsburg South next Monday night.
