PHS bounces back after loss to Kids
The Parkland High School boys soccer team was tested right out of the gate in the 2026 regular season.
After dropping the season opener, the Trojans bounced back to split their first two games, both in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
In a back-and-forth contest to kick things off, Parkland lost to Northampton 5-4 last Tuesday, Sept. t, but followed that with the first victory of the season, a 13-0 shutout in the home opener against Dieruff.
In the game with the Kids, the Trojans started out fast, scoring three of the four first-half goals to lead 3-1 at halftime.
The second half was a different story, as the hosts tallied four goals and only allowed one to hold on for the victory.
Alex Hurwitz, who finished with a team-best two goals, scored the opening tally in the first half on an assist by Carter Shirk, and then added his second on a penalty kick after Northampton tied it at 1-1.
Edward Curelar recorded the third goal for his team in the first half. Julian Park rounded out the scoring for the Trojans with a goal in the second half.
The Kids scored three unanswered goals to complete the comeback. Matthew Feiller finished with five saves in net.
In the victory over the Huskies, there were eight different goal scorers, including a hat trick for Zayan Yasir, two goals each for Ethan Frey, Hurwitz and Curelar, and then one for Jose Canella, Javan Roustic,
Ioannis Gougoustamos and Jacob Tawfik. Hurwtiz also added three assists, while each of Frey, Yasir, Austin Alvarez Yong, Matt Stiles and Gougoustamos had one. Parkland outshot Dieruff 20-0 and had a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
