Parkland girls tennis team is still undefeated
The Parkland girls tennis team improved to 8-0 with four wins last week.
Just past the halfway mark in the season, the Trojans are tied with Emmaus atop the District 11 rankings and East Penn Conference standings.
Parkland capped a four-win week with a 6-0 victory over Nazareth Saturday.
Sadie Pollard, Sonia Lee and Kiana Miles won singles matches against the Blue Eagles. Yihan Li and Syrien Alvin won the No. 2 doubles match. The Nos. 3 and 4 doubles matches were both won by 6-0, 6-0 scores with Hannah Schmoyer and Ashley Carl taking the third doubles contest and Mehek Garg and Sophie Law earning a point in the fourth doubles match.
The Trojans handed Liberty its second loss of the season last Thursday, 7-0. Pollard, Lee and Miles won singles matches against the Hurricanes. Li/Alvin, Schmoyer/Carl and Garg/Law earned wins in doubles matches.
Julianne Cooper and Shravani Shelke won the alternate doubles match.
Parkland won a nonleague match against Moravian Academy last Wednesday, Sept. 9, handing the Colonial League-leading Lions their only loss of the season by a 5-2 score.
Miles was the only singles winner against Moravian Academy. The Trojans doubles teams of Li/Alvin, Schmoyer/Carl and Garg/Law all won their with Schmoyer and Carl pulling out a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win. Shelke and Maheen Jan won the alternate match.
The Trojans beat East Stroudsburg North 7-0 last Tuesday in the first of four matches in five days.
Pollard, Lee and Miles won singles matches, Li/Alvin, Schmoyer/Carl and Garg/Law picked up wins in doubles action. Jan won the alternate match.
Parkland has five matches this week and another three next week before finishing the regular season against Emmaus Sept. 9. The Hornets and Trojans are the only unbeaten teams in the EPC and District 11.
