The Parkland High School girls soccer team opened its 2026 season with two straight shutout victories, both games in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
The Trojans first took down Northampton 1-0 in the season and home opener last Wednesday, Sept. 2, and then downed Dieruff on the road 8-0 on Saturday.
In the victory over the Kids, Mia Russell had the game-winning goal on an assist by Lila Zuber in the second half to claim the opening win. Hanna Hertzog finished with one save in the net for the win. Parkland outshot Northampton 7-1 and had a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
In the win against the Huskies, the scoring was even for the Trojans as they tallied four goals in both the first and second halves. There were also eight different goal scorers for Parkland, including Adrianna Rizzotto, Kennedy Perkins, Delilah Zaiter, Mackenzie McNeely, Russell, Sarai Wellington, Abby Bareither and Madison Althouse. Parkland finished with a 9-0 advantage in shots and a 3-0 edge in corners. Hertzog was not forced into action in net.
Parkland is scheduled to play two games this week. The Trojans hosted Easton Wednesday and are at Freedom Friday. They are then back at home next Tuesday when they welcome East Stroudsburg South.
