NWL extends CL winning streak to 35

Not many teams in the Colonial League can match up with the football teams Northwestern has fielded the past few seasons.

The Falcons would have loved to give it a try, but Friday night with 12 players missing due to injuries, there wasn’t much Salisbury could do against a bigger, stronger and faster Northwestern opponent.

The three-time state finalist and 2024 state champion Tigers have overwhelmed many opponents over the past few seasons and their 69-7 win over Salisbury last Friday night probably won’t be the last time they hang that kind of number on a team this season.

The Tigers took the opening kick off 86 yards for a score and proceeded to score on each of their next seven possessions. They built a 41-0 lead after one quarter and held a 55-0 lead going into halftime.

The Falcons got on the board in the game when Alex Moren caught an 8-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Keaton Frye to break the shutout late in the fourth quarter.

Salisbury has taken on two of the league’s top teams over the past two weeks in losses to Notre Dame (Green Pond) and Northwestern, the two teams that reached last year’s District 11 Class 3A title game.

This Friday night the Falcons head to Slatington to face a 3-1 Northern Lehigh team that felt the wrath of Northwestern two weeks ago in a 48-0 loss to its rival.

The Bulldogs own wins this season over Executive Academy, Pen Argyl and Palisades.

Falcon head coach Kevin DiZenzo said his players are working hard and doing everything the coaching staff has asked, but a dozen injuries to a small team like the Falcons has been too much to overcome.

Northwestern has now won 35 consecutive games against Colonial League opponents.
