Girls volleyball stays unbeaten

The Parkland High School girls volleyball team had another successful week last week, remaining unbeaten and winning all three of its Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matches via sweeps.

The Trojans defeated Whitehall last Thursday and took down Pocono Mountain West the next day. Parkland beat East Stroudsburg South on Monday.

In the victory over the Zephyrs, the Trojans won by scores of 25-5, 25-8, 25-13. Gabrielle Nissen led the attack with 12 kills. MJ Bhanji finished with six kills, three blocks and two digs. Sami Walls recorded five kills, two digs and a block. Riley Schilling tallied four kills and two blocks. Chloe Coonradt led the defense with 11 digs. Alex Serina contributed 14 assists and eight digs and Josee Kim added 13 assists and five digs.

In the win against the Panthers, Parkland was victorious by scores of 25-9, 25-11, 25-20. Bhanji paced the attack with 10 kills and added two blocks. Nissen had nine kills, nine digs and two service aces. Schilling notched eight kills. Coonradt compiled 20 digs and three aces and both Kim and Serina tallied 18 assists, while combining for 13 digs.

Scores in the match with the Cavaliers were 25-11, 25-12, 25-11. Zoey Leach and Coonradt each netted eight aces, with the latter adding 10 digs. Nissen totaled eight kills, Bhanji recorded six kills and Paige Jacoskie had five kills. Walls recorded four kills and three blocks, while Serina contributed 27 assists.

Parkland, which improved to 6-0 overall and in the conference, has two conference matches this week before finishing off the week at the Bulldog Invitational at Wilson West Lawn on Saturday. The Trojans were at Dieruff this past Wednesday and then are at Northampton on Thursday.
