FARMSTAND OF THE WEEK

This week I visited Colleen McGrath at The Soapy Hen Co. Farm Stand.

Colleen sells handmade soap, sugar scrubs, bath salts, linen sprays, and other handcrafted body items at her farmstand located on Mosserville Road between Springhouse and Route 309.

Colleen started making soaps about 3 years ago when her daughter was born as a hobby to keep her busy while she was at home.

She started out by giving her creations to family and friends and they all told her that she needed to start selling her products so that is just what she did.

She opened the stand in June of this year.

I asked Colleen why her business is called The Soapy Hen.

She told me when she moved to her farm in New Tripoli she was excited to get chickens and purchased some chicks and ended up with nine roosters.

All she wanted was hens to lay eggs and that is how she came up with the name.

She now has her hens and hopes to eventually offer eggs at her stand as well.

The Farm Stand is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.- 8 p.m. (weather permitting).

Payment options at the stand include cash, Venmo, Zelle, and Apply Pay.

Colleen plans to keep the stand open this season as long as the weather allows.

Come visit Colleen’s stand and support local.

Her products make great gifts!

Check out and follow her Facebook page too.
