Emmaus girls volleyball outlasts ACC

The Emmaus High School girls volleyball team won two of its three Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matches last week, suffering its second conference defeat on the year.

The Hornets started the week with a straight set sweep victory against Stroudsburg last Monday, Sept. 14, then outlasted Central Catholic in five sets on Wednesday, but lost in straight sets Friday at Liberty.

In the victory over the Mounties, Emmaus won by scores of 25-7, 25-14, 25-18. Draya Flowers finished with seven kills, two aces and five digs. Ashley Hoppes recorded 15 assists, three aces and seven digs. Fiona Answini tallied six kills, six aces and five digs, and Rosie Landino contributed six kills and three aces.

In the win against the Vikettes, the Hornets came out on top by scores of 25-22, 14-25, 25-21, 14-25, 15-13. Landino paced the attack with a team-best 13 kills and defensively, a team-high 17 digs for the double-double. Answini notched 10 kills and 14 digs and Emma Nesfeder dished out 24 assists, while adding four kills, four aces and 10 digs.

Emmaus, which moved to 5-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference, was at Pocono Mountain East this past Tuesday evening, host Bethlehem Catholic on Thursday and then are at East Stroudsburg North on Saturday morning. The rivalry with Parkland continues next Tuesday evening at Emmaus High School.
