Stewart eyes strong finish this year
Kaylin Stewart admittedly had a busy summer.
She was looking to improve on her cross country running as well as elevating her basketball game the past two seasons.
“Summer with basketball and cross country was tough,” said Stewart. “But it kept me active and definitely improved my stamina.”
In the early going of her cross country season, the junior has seen some new water marks raised. She recently posted a time of 27:39 at a meet at Bangor, and bettered her time of 31:09 at Moravian a few days earlier. Her best time has been 27:35.
“I think the season is going pretty good and I am improving a lot from last season,” beamed Stewart. “I think I’m running pretty good, I’m definitely keeping a good pace.”
Stewart started running because she wanted to get better on her endurance and speed for basketball. Over the past two years, Stewart has been an integral player on the basketball court. Last season, she averaged nearly 10 points a game.
She began running because of the influence of her mother Regina Kizer. In addition to her sports, Stewart enjoys building Legos, and she is involved with Student Council, Stars Club, Team Catty, and Varsity C Club.
Head coach Kyle Rusnock believes Stewart has unbound future potential.
“Kaylin is doing an amazing job so far this year,” gushed Rusnock. “This is the best she has ever run and is only going to improve. She is finding a good pace in meets and is very determined.
“She is going to drop her times every week, and she will be ready for the postseason. Kaylin is also an amazing athlete and keeps herself in shape playing basketball and running track.”
