After the hazy, lazy days of summer, Northwestern Lehigh High School students went from daily bedrotting to school day routines in the blink of an eye.
For many, it seemed like an abrupt end to the summer. And that’s because it was.
NWLHS administrators confirmed that this was the first five-day back-to-school week in over 30 years, due in part to how late Labor Day was.
Since then, we’ve become acclimated to the early starts, long days, and extracurriculars that make the days seem even longer.
The freshmen struggle less to open their lockers, and the upperclassmen have aged into the new privilege of booth seating in the lunch room.
Now, (almost) everyone gets to class on time.
With long-procrastinated summer schoolwork now submitted, we students finally have the chance to fully adjust to our new classes and enjoy ourselves.
During the school day, students laugh together in the hallways and talk excitedly at their lunch intervals, catching up with friends they haven’t seen for months.
However, all this excitement can read as overwhelming to some — especially to newcomers.
Students had nine school days before the long holiday weekend, during which extracurricular activities began to ramp up.
Interest meetings to join clubs happened intermittently the first few weeks of school.
When trying to join a club, students are often presented with a maze of QR and Google Classroom codes.
To avoid confusion, the easiest way to contact club advisers is by finding their emails on high school’s athletics and activities webpage.
In terms of sports, the football team (as usual) has started off incredibly strong this season, reasserting their dominant streak by winning every game so far.
Their dedication to practice will ensure there’s no end in sight.
This first semester brings excitement and new friendships with its fresh opportunities.
As the change of season approaches, NWLHS students have many events to look forward to — from Friday night football games to fall festivals to Homecoming.
Fall events need fall weather. Now, if only the weather would cool down and cooperate.
