Whitehall entered last Friday’s game against Northampton truly on a big stage.

It was the annual Cement Bowl rivalry between the two teams, and the Zephyrs also celebrated their 100th anniversary of the program.

Yet, when it came to the game, the Zephyrs were all business.

Whitehall (2-1) looked solid in all phases of their game in a 31-19 victory over Northampton, With the win, the Zephyrs moved to 2-1 overall, and they will host Pleasant Valley Friday night.

Head coach Andy Marino was impressed with his team’s showing after they came off a 49-13 loss to Nazareth the previous week. Zephyrs’ quarterback Tanner Dogmanits had a big night, as he ran for 156 yards with three touchdowns, and he also completed 18 of 125 passes with a touchdown.

Jeziah Gregory ran for 129 yards on 18 carries for Whitehall.

“As a team, we played consistent and complementary football,” noted Marino. “Tanner played a smart game and took his chances when he had to.

“Northampton is well coached, big and physical. We contained the big runs and made them drive the field consistently.”

Dogmanits, who ran for three scores and threw for three others in the Zephyrs’ 56-49 victory over Northampton last year, saw a similar picture.

“Against Northampton, we played as a team for all four quarters,” stressed Dogmanits. “Our line did a great job opening up holes for me, and Jeziah to get yards. The offense was slow in the first half, but our blocking in the second half was very huge for us.”

The Zephyrs will host Pleasant Valley (2-1), which is coming off a 20-19 loss to Pottsville in its first loss of the season. They failed to convert a game-winning two-point conversion.

Marino anticipates a challenge ahead.

“Pleasant Valley is off to a great start,” said Marino. “They are experienced and physical. They present many problems.”

Zephyr Zounds: This is the first meeting between the two clubs since 2022 when Whitehall posted a 49-14 victory ... For the season, Dogmanits has completed 38 of 58 passes for 544 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He has run for 163 yards with four touchdowns ... Jeziah Gregory ran for 129 yards against Northampton, and he has 282 for the season with a touchdown ... Henry Schultz caught six passes for 84 yards against Northampton, and he has 16 catches for 274 yards with two touchdowns for the season ... Aiden Hannis had 11 tackles against Northampton, and he has a team-high 25 tackles. Ben Pychinka has 24 stops, and Iskander Blanco has 20 tackles through two games ... Nick Miley booted a 35-yard field goal ... Pleasant Valley’s Chris Ward gained 188 yards last week. Jacob George added 85 yards, and the Bears ran for 280 overall. Quarterback Brandt Wines was just 4 for 8 for 15 yards, and the Bears had just 26 yards passing ... Pottsville ran for 231 yards against Pleasant Valley.

PREDICTION: Last week’s pick was a tough one, and I should have gone with the Zephyrs ... They certainly regrouped well after the Nazareth game ...
