At the Aug. 13 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, supervisors approved continued funding for the fire department recruitment and retention efforts.

In 2023, the supervisors approved allocating funds from the township’s general fund to be used for the purpose of recruitment and retention of firefighters and fire police for the East Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department. The supervisors approved the disbursement of funds for fiscal year, quarter two, totaling $12,310.

The fire department funds include $4,935 as officers and fire police incentive. Member incentives totaled $3,550. Staffing incentive funds totaled $3,525, and the firefighter education first distribution was $300.

Ongoing efforts by the supervisors and fire department leaders as a goal is to strengthen the plan’s program to attract younger people to provide fire services with the East Allen Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Supervisors considered, but took no action, regarding an elderly housing overlay, zoning ordinance change and map amendment for 6500 Hanoverville Road. It was noted a public hearing may be required to address the situation.

The proposal was reportedly to amend the zoning ordinance amendment that creates a new overlay district applicable for the zoning district, which will allow for senior housing in a cluster of mid-rise, multifamily apartment buildings on a site sufficient to also offer on-site amenities.

The approximately 15.7-acre parcel is currently zoned within East Allen’s planned commercial 2 district (PC-2). A portion of the parcel extends into Hanover Township, Northampton County.

The applicant intends to develop apartments for residents aged 62 and older on the East Allen Township portion of the parcel.

Supervisors voted to release financial security for Regency at the Creekside Meadows for phases 1-3 of the project. Phase 1 is for $1,069,967 with phase 2 being $516,910 and the third phase $335,854.

On July 10, the township received the release requests for the Regency at Creekside Meadows major subdivision located along Beth-Bath Pike.

In his township manager report, Brent Green noted the Jacksonville Park pickleball court change order will be requested.

In his engineer report, Jim Millot reported the metal plate was placed on the Jacksonville bridge as its planned replacement or upgrade is moving forward.

In the township ambulance report, it was noted Northampton Regional Emergency Management Service had 644 ambulance calls in July that included 60 calls for services in East Allen Township.

Supervisors approved the minutes of the July 23 supervisors meeting. General fund checks 4916-4981 in the amount of $197,670.20 were ratified by the supervisors. Fire fund checks 0063-0065 in the amount of $1,043.30 were also ratified.
