Bonnie Lee Mengel
Bonnie Lee Mengel, 66, of Allentown, died in her home Aug. 17, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Kenneth Sr. and Patricia (Brady).
A Dieruff High School graduate of 1977, she went on to graduate from Kutztown University in 1981 and took off from there. She began teaching immediately and soon left to conquer N.Y.C. where she attended Brooklyn College and NYU, earning her master’s degree in special education, which became her life’s passion. She lived in the city for 20 years where she was known as a top-notch educator and for her charitable drives for the less fortunate — earning many accolades and awards.
She lived a full life of service to many as a devoted teacher for 43 years. Her students and friends she met in the education field and elsewhere along the way were near and dear to her heart.
She relocated to New England, landing in New Hampshire to continue educating special needs children and advocating for any child in need.
After reconnecting with family back home and retiring in 2022, she stopped in New Jersey for a year and then made her way back to Allentown in 2024.
She loved the beach and all that came with it. Among her favorite things were butterflies and flowers — sunsets, animals, and nature — garden fresh zucchini, tomatoes, and corn. And most importantly, she adored her canine companions.
She is survived by her brother, Russel (Rusty) along with her beloved Yorkie, Murphy.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Kenneth Junior (little Kenny);
Please honor her life by remembering to be kind — giving to others in need as you can, whether that is a shoulder or a dollar — and living each day as if it may be your last.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to a local animal rescue or Mandee’s Lunchbox, 65 S. Lea St., Macungie, 18062
Arrangements are entrusted to the K.V. Knopp Funeral Home, Allentown.
