Upper Macungie Twp offering sports, fitness programs for all ages

Upper Macungie Township will be offering a free Zumba Gold trial class for teens and adults led by instructor, Donna Barats 9-9:45 a.m. Aug. 21 at the Community Center.

Zumba Gold is a modified, lower-intensity version of the original Zumba class.

It is designed for beginners, active older adults, and those who are new to exercise.

The program focuses on cardiovascular health, balance, strength, and flexibility through easy-to-follow choreography and upbeat music.

The township in partnership with Lehigh Valley Martial Arts Trexlertown will be offering a free Intro to Karate Workshop for kids ages 5 and older noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 22 at 7150 Hamilton Blvd., Trexlertown.

No prior experience necessary.

Lehigh Valley Health Network in partnership with the township will be offering a total body conditioning program for all fitness levels noon to 1 p.m. on Fridays beginning Aug. 28.

Total Body Conditioning is a 60-minute, fast-paced full-body strength and cardio class designed to improve everyday movement, muscular endurance, and core stability.

The township’s speed development drop-in program for youth ages 10-18 will be held 9-10 a.m. on Aug. 29 and Sept. 5. Weekly drop-ins are welcome!

The speed development program is a high-energy training session focused on improving speed, agility, and overall athleticism through plyometrics and both linear and multidirectional speed drills.

Sessions are scaled to accommodate athletes of all experience levels and are designed to build movement skills, athletic performance, and conditioning.

A free flag football clinic will take place 4-6 p.m. Aug. 29 at Grange Park Fields. This Let It Fly Flag Football Clinic for ages 8-14 is a dynamic, noncontact program that combines high-energy fun with skill-building in a safe, supportive environment.

Led by experienced coaches, the clinic focuses on core flag football fundamentals like throwing, catching, route-running, flag-pulling, defensive positioning, teamwork, and game strategy — tailored for beginners to more advanced players.

The township’s free trial period for its speed and agility program for youth ages 10-18 will be offered from 5:30-6 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays until Sept. 2 and also on Tuesdays and Thursdays until Sept. 3.

This program is designed to help athletes move with greater speed, strength, control, and confidence.

Through progressive drills and movement training, participants will develop plyometrics, jumping ability, agility, change of direction, balance, coordination, and multidirectional speed.

The township’s free trial period for its Middle School Sports Performance program for kids ages 10-18 will run 6-7 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays until Sept. 3.

This program is designed to introduce middle school athletes to the fundamentals of athletic performance in a supportive weight room environment.

Through age-appropriate mobility, resistance training, plyometrics, speed, agility, and conditioning exercises, athletes will build a strong foundation of movement quality and proper technique.

The program focuses on developing strength, confidence, and healthy training habits that will support continued athletic growth and performance.

The High School Sports Performance program will take place 7-8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays until Sept. 3.

This free trial period is designed for high school and elite athletes looking to take their performance to the next level.

Athletes will develop speed, strength, power, and muscle endurance through advanced resistance training, speed development, power exercises, and sport-specific conditioning.

The program focuses on building a strong physical foundation while preparing athletes to meet the demands of their sport with greater strength, power, and confidence.

Fall Tennis Lessons for kids ages 7-10 will take place on Mondays 4:30-5:30 p.m. until Sept. 14 at Brookside Country Club, 901 Willow Lane, Macungie.

The township will also be offering tennis lessons for kids ages 11-15 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and for youth ages 16 and older 6:30-7:30 p.m., both on Mondays until Sept. 14.

Participants must bring their own racquet. No experience is necessary.

The township’s Parents Night Out event will take place on Sept. 4. Enjoy a night off while the kids have a night of fun! Drop your kids off at the community center from 5-8 p.m. for games on the turf or basketball court, followed by pizza and a movie. Activities will be led by the elementary EnerGym instructors, Kyle Creyer, a fourth-grade teacher at Veterans Elementary School, and Dr. Dietz, a second grade teacher at East Penn School District.

Wildlands Conservancy will be hosting Wild Side S’mores 5:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at Grange Park Pavilion No. 1, 360 Grange Road.

A lineup of amazing animal guests will make an appearance at the park followed by cozy campfire fun with s’more making around the fire pit.

This event is perfect for kids, families, and nature lovers of all ages.

The Grub and Groove Food Truck Festival will take place every Thursday from 5-8 p.m. through Sept. 24 at Grange Park, 360 Grange Road.

Come and enjoy various food trucks and musical offerings.

Food trucks will meet by Pavilion No. 1 at Grange Park.

Concerts in the Park series running through October at Grange Park, 360 Grange Road, takes place 7:30 p.m. on the last Saturday of each month unless otherwise noted.

Each concert will showcase at least two live performances featuring a variety of musical styles and local talent.

Admission is free.

Food and drink vendors will be on site to keep you refreshed and satisfied.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1028 Church St., Fogelsville, will be hosting Vince’s Cheesesteak Food Truck 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 27 in the church parking lot.
