LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Public Library of Catasauqua: Stop by the library for free books

One of the jobs of a library is to be a data center, where knowledge is stored for those who may seek it out when needed. However, in order to do that in an efficient and useful manner, we are forced to periodically weed our collection, which means older books get decommissioned.

Sometimes our loss can be your gain, as we are offering these decommissioned books from our adult nonfiction collection free to anyone who stops by. In the coming week, approximately a thousand books will be yours for the taking in our upstairs auditorium.

In addition to the nonfiction, a limited selection of older juvenile fiction is also available. Come get yours soon.

The library will offer another history talk, set for 7 p.m. Sept. 9, titled “Scots Irish in the Lehigh Valley and the Fight for Independence.”

Come out to learn about this prominent group and about the nearby Craig Settlement from local historian Deb Mellish.

There are only a few more weeks of summer left, and that means only a few more weeks of Unearthing A Story during our Thursday reading and crafting event. Come out for the fun!

We’ll still be holding the session 3 p.m. Aug. 20, but once school starts the time will change. Starting Aug. 27, the time will be 4 p.m. until next summer.

While the temps are still summerlike, you can come into the air conditioning and play a classic board game. We even hold a board game club 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays. There will be snacks.

***

Don’t forget our gaming club is available for those interested in Minecraft and Roblox. Guidance and technical help is available.

Saturdays are the days for that, but any time is a good time for gaming!

The adult book club is reading “Rules of Civility” by Amor Towles in preparation for its Sept. 2 meeting. Feel free to call or stop by in order to obtain a copy or just show up for the discussion, set for 3 p.m. in our upstairs auditorium.

***

As always, our lovely fiber arts group the Stitches continues to meet 5:30 p.m. every Monday for fun, community and advice. If you’d like to take up a new hobby or make time to work on your yarn-based projects, this is the group for you!
