Coplay: Community Days starts Aug. 28
The 45th annual Coplay Community Days festival is almost here. It starts 5 p.m. Aug. 28 and continues noon-9 p.m. Aug. 29 and 30.
It is a celebration of the local cement industry, particularly the former Coplay Cement Company workers. There will be music, an array of foods, dancing, friendship and time to reconnect with friends.
The Aardvarks will perform 6 p.m. Aug. 28.

The mayor’s office is seeking Coplay residents interested in developing and leading a Coplay town watch. Training will be provided in crime watching and activities to increase the safety of Coplay.

Mark your calendar: The Whitehall Lions Club cash bingo is set for Oct. 4 at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St. The jackpot is $200.
There will be bingo cards and five paper specials. Bingo chips, dabbers and food will be available for purchase.
There also is a basket social and a 50-25-25 cash drawing.
All proceeds benefit Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative. Bring a canned or boxed food to donate.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the municipal building, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month. If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.
The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

The model train room is operated by Explorer Post 101. Meetings are 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building
The mission is to promote interest in the hobby of model railroading for 12- to 21-year-olds. There is a new Explorer Club for ages 12-14.

The Coplay aerobics classes meet 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 7 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays in the borough hall auditorium. There is a cost by donation.

Coplay American Legion Post 426 has an special mailbox in front of the Post at 134 S. Second St. Worn out American flags can be deposited into the mailbox for the Post to properly destroy the flags.
