Mama’s Musings - Vacation

Postponed our vacation. Cash flow issues for both myself and my older son. Somehow, my day job paid me my Para rate instead of my teacher rate. Instant cascading failure of finances.

My car is still in the shop. I am a little bit frustrated. The car works fine, but the check engine light comes on most of the time. I swear it’s what the mechanic calls a gremlin. But they need to make sure.

I asked my ex to send his settlement payment a day early. After a nasty vitupretive text, which I ignored, he did. If I’d really felt like being unkind, I would have reminded him that the settlement is for money he spent that was mine. And he has very generous repayment terms.

Mostly I am feeling overly stressed, and looking forward to Friday, when the back pay and proper summer pay should both pay out. Also we finally go on our little vacation.

I realized some of the last few days stress was my brain protesting that we were not already on vacation. We don’t go away often. Something I’d like to see change. There is something good about leaving the everyday behind, and seeing new things.

Speaking of new things, my youngest still refuses to see the new school. I am at my wits end with that as well. I’ve argued, protested, and nothing helps. Transportation is another issue. It’s in his 504, but we live “too close to the school.” Never mind that we also live where the population density is high and there is a lot of traffic. What am I supposed to do? I am the only driver in the family, and both my older son’s job and mine start earlier than the school opens. We are working on him with crossing streets, but his adhd makes it hard for him to focus. Yes, a street crossing takes less than a minute. No, I don’t trust his focus or the focus of the commuters either. I’m not quitting my job, and neither is his brother. It’s an impossible situation.

Is it any wonder why I need that vacation?
