Entrance, plaza project to start Aug. 17

After months of planning and fundraising, construction of a new entrance and plaza at the Emmaus Public Library is set to start Aug. 17. Here’s what to expect:

•The current front entrance will be closed for the first two weeks of the project. Follow signs for the temporary entrance in the back.

•Curbside pickup will be available. Call 610-965-9284 upon arrival to have items brought out to you.

•UGI Utilities will be working along Ridge Street between Keystone Avenue and State Avenue through Aug. 24. Allow extra time for possible delays and parking restrictions.

•Parking in the library lot will be limited. Use street parking along Ridge Street or Williams Street.

•On-site book drops will not be accessible Aug. 27-31, including evenings and weekends. Return items inside the library or to any Lehigh County or Carbon County library. Two additional book drops are located at Macungie Borough Hall, 21 Locust St., Macungie and the Upper Milford Township Office, 5671 Chestnut St., Zionsville. WiFi hot spots, museum passes and puzzles must be returned at Emmaus Public Library, 11 E. Main St.

•Book donations will be paused Aug. 17-31.

•Weekly Plant A Row produce collections will continue. Look for signs in the parking lot to a temporary location for collections scheduled Aug. 17-31.

The project is expected to end by November and estimated to cost $280,000.

More than $227,000 has been raised through donations from area residents and businesses, as well as a $25,000 grant from the Harry C. Trexler Trust.

Handouts about the project are available at the circulation desk. Information is also posted on the library website, www.emmauspl.org.

The Emmaus Library welcomes residents or Emmaus and Macungie boroughs and Upper Milford Township. Salisbury Township residents may use the library’s resources through Pennsylvania’s Access PA program and at the library during library hours.
