The Parkland High School boys basketball team finished off a busy summer and busy month of July two weekends ago. After concluding the Lehigh Valley Summer League regular season as the top team at 11-1, the Trojans were semifinalists in the playoffs earlier that month and then competed in the Bash at the Beach tournament at Executive Education Academy Charter that same weekend.

To end the summer, Parkland, which was able to field a more complete team than it had at the Bash at the Beach, had a successful run to the quarterfinals of the A-Town Throwdown two weeks ago.

“I thought this weekend went really well,” said head coach Eddie Ohlson. “We got a lot of experience for a lot of guys. We always use these tournaments to gain experience for everyone. We made it to Sunday, I’m happy with that.”

The Trojans fell to Lower Merion 41-34 on Sunday afternoon after earlier defeating Exeter 48-37 Sunday morning in the opening playoff game. In pool play, Parkland went 4-0, first taking down fellow Eastern Pennsylvania Conference member East Stroudsburg South 52-37 Friday afternoon behind a game-high 16 points from Marcus Temchatin. Later that night, the Trojans downed Samuel Fels 43-35 with Blake Nassry scoring a team-best 14 points. Parkland then played against another conference foe, holding on to take care of Pocono Mountain West 36-35 on Saturday afternoon behind 20 points from Nassry. The Trojans finished out the group play portion later that day with a 43-37 victory over Executive and 15 points by Nassry.

Ohlson highlighted some of his top performers throughout the summer, with some familiar names to Parkland fans.

“Blake and TJ (Lawrence) were obviously very good for us, really all summer,” Ohlson said. “Our rising sophomore, Marcus Temchatin, had really good summer and is one of the ones that has really stepped up and is becoming a leader on the court, even though he is one of the younger guys.”

The Trojans will now look to the upcoming season and to get back on top of the EPC and District 11.
