To the Editor:

I worked in information technology for 46 years with the majority of my employment life in data centers. The smallest was about the size of an average ranch house and the largest was about a third of a football field.

Working in a data center was not comfortable. It was cold, noisy, and you were surrounded by high voltage machines. Some equipment was air cooled, and some was water cooled.

The data centers of today are literally hundreds of times larger with thousands of servers. We’re told there is a “need” for data centers. Knowing what I know about these facilities, I would not want to work in one, and I certainly don’t want one near my home.

Allen Township has approved a data center at an unused warehouse. That decision should satisfy the state legal requirement to have a data center in the township. No additional data centers are required.
