Gary D. Howerter, 69, of Emmaus, died Aug. 3, 2026, at the inpatient hospice unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Paul H. and Frieda H. (Shelly) Howerter.

He worked in the family business, the former Howerter Furniture in Emmaus, holding various positions throughout his life, concluding his career as the co-owner for the last 10 years of operation until the store’s closing in 2017.

He was a graduate of Emmaus High School, Class of 1975.

He attended Bethel Bible Fellowship Church in Emmaus for many years.

He was an avid Phillies fan and enjoyed watching professional wrestling.

He is survived by a brother, Daniel P.; sister, Linda M. Gibson and her husband, George; nieces, Amy Dewire (Eric), Melissa Gibson (Brian); nephews, Christopher, Steven; great-nephews, Tobias, Nathaniel, Benjamin.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Lehigh Valley Hospice, 2024 Lehigh St., Allentown, 18103.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Aug. 15 at Bachman, Kulik & Reinsmith Funeral Home, 225 Elm St., Emmaus. A viewing will be held 7-9 p.m. Aug. 14 and 10:30-11 a.m. Aug. 15 in the funeral home.
