Coplay: Church plans Aug. 15 cookout
The Living Spring International is sponsoring an area community barbecue and summer cookout on the Redeemed Christian Church of God grounds, 5-17 N. Third St. All are welcomed to attend the cookout 1-5 p.m. Aug. 15.
It will be an afternoon filled with food, fun, community bonding, music and fellowship.

Reminder: Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., has scheduled its Friday night concerts. The August lineup is DNA Aug. 14, Third Hand Band Aug. 21 and the Honey Buzzards Aug. 28.
The gate opens 5 p.m., the kitchen will open 5:30 p.m., and the band plays until 10 p.m.

The 45th annual Coplay Community Days festival is planned for Aug. 28-30. It will kick off 5 p.m. Aug. 28 and continues noon-9 p.m. Aug. 29 and 30.
It is a celebration of the local cement industry, particularly the former Coplay Cement Company workers. There will be music, an array of foods, dancing, friendship and time to reconnect with friends.
The Aardvarks will perform 6 p.m. Aug. 28.

The Whitehall Lions Club cash bingo is set for Oct. 4 at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St. The jackpot is $200.
Bingo chips, dabbers and fabulous food will be available for purchase. There also is a basket social and a 50-25-25 cash drawing.
All proceeds benefit Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative. Bring a canned or boxed food to donate.

Coplay Food Bank, located in the municipal building, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. the second Tuesday of every month. If unable to attend the scheduled Tuesday morning time frame, call Jodi at 610-262-0928 to make other arrangements.
The food bank needs coffee, spaghetti sauce and noodles, canned pasta, rice pouches and non-sweetened dry cereals. Monetary donations are always accepted.

The mayor’s office is seeking Coplay residents interested in developing and leading a Coplay town watch. Training will be provided in crime watching and activities to increase the safety of Coplay.

The model train room is operated by Explorer Post 101. Meetings are 7-9 p.m. every Thursday on the second floor of the municipal building.
The mission is to promote interest in the hobby of model railroading to 12-21 year olds.
