St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, held its annual block party June 25-27. The festival highlighted delicious homemade food, music, bingo and games for all ages. By all measures, the weekend was a success, despite some rainy weather June 27.

Musical entertainment was provided by DH Productions and DJ June 26, with Sons of Izzy entertaining the following day.

Adult games included two gambling wheels, a ball toss and bottle lotto. Bingo was held in the church social hall. There was a cup game, lucky duck gallery, a duck pond, toilet tissue toss, Connect Four, ping pong toss and face painting by Penelope for children and those adults young at heart.

A wide array of homemade food was featured for attendees to eat until satisfied or for takeout. Refreshments and adult beverages were served. Patrons said they liked the numerous ice cream selections that were for sale.

Tickets were needed for all purchases. Donna Fritchey, of Northampton, and Joan Korp, of Catasauqua, occupied the all-important role of ticket sellers.

At the beer stand, Todd McCurdy, of Richlandtown, and Mike Evans, of Whitehall, served drinks with a smile. There was also a birch beer stand staffed by Bill Fritchey, who gave a thumbs up to patrons as they purchased the sweet, tasty beverage.

Katie Nederostek, of Macungie, staffed the Connect Four game, and teenagers Jess and Destiny, of Catasauqua, operated the ping pong toss. Melissa Casey, of North Whitehall, staffed the duck pond, and Gerald Nonomwam, of Allentown, staffed the toilet tissue toss.

Friendliness projected throughout the festival by all church volunteers.

Trent and his mother, Katryna Brady, of Catasauqua, said they had fun playing games and getting something to eat. Frank Saganowich, of Whitehall, enjoyed the fair-like ambience of the festival. He noted he attends all the St. Mary’s festivals, when possible.

The St. Mary’s block party was a hit for all, with a wide variety of foods, drinks, games, goodwill and fellowship.
