Upper Lehigh Lions, churches announce community events

The Upper Lehigh Lions Club will hold its annual Craft Fair on July 18 at the Union United Church of Christ grove in Neffs. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be held rain or shine.

Food stands will operate from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will offer hamburgers, hot dogs, french fries, pierogies and turkey barbecues. A bake sale also will be available.

The club’s ‘Roast With the Lions’ festival is set for July 24-25 at the church grove. Refreshment stands will open at 5 p.m. July 24 and feature sausage sandwiches, haluski, pierogies, french fries, hot dogs, hamburgers and turkey barbecues.

Band of Brothers will perform from 7-10 p.m. July 24. Additional attractions include a bake sale, raffle and ice cream from Crystal Springs Dairy.

The Large Flowerheads will perform from 7-10 p.m. July 25. Food service will be available from 5-10 p.m.

The Upper Lehigh Lions Club recently installed its officers for the coming year. Keith Bloss was named president. Vice presidents are Christa Sterner, Aimee Roth and Norm Whitmore. Bill Rabe will serve as secretary, Kevin Schmidt as treasurer and David Matulevich as assistant secretary-treasurer. Rich Wisser was named Lion Tamer and Ken Zimmerman will serve as Tail Twister. Directors are Kathi Smoll, Gene Wolfgang, Pam Haas and Dolores Neas. Erin Heintzelman is immediate past president.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, will host a community program at 1 p.m. July 27. A representative of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office will discuss telephone fraud and scams. The presentation is intended to help residents recognize and avoid phone scams. Union United Church of Christ in Neffs will celebrate the Christmas spirit during a worship service in the grove at 10:30 a.m. July 26. The church’s mission committee is collecting new socks, underwear and T-shirts for men, women and children. Donations will be distributed through agencies serving people in need.
