Public Library of Catasauqua: Catasauqua library celebrates 102 years of community, literacy

This month, our country celebrated 250 years of independence, and the library celebrated 102 years of community and literacy. Come on down and celebrate with us by playing a game, working on a computer or checking out a book or DVD.

***

The adult book club will meet 3 p.m. Aug. 5 to discuss “Beautiful Ugly” by Alice Feeney, a dark thriller about marriage and identity. Stop by for information about obtaining a copy or just come to the club to listen in on the discussion.

***

The library’s big annual fundraising yard sale is coming up! It will be held 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 8 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 604 Fourth St. Come find bargains while helping the library.

Donations can be dropped off 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 2, noon-4 p.m. Aug. 3, 3-6 p.m. Aug. 4, noon-4 p.m. Aug. 5 and 3-6 p.m. Aug. 6.

Call the library at 610-264-4151 for more information.

The library’s summer reading program is in full swing, and all are welcome! We host a story and a craft activity for kids of all ages 3 p.m. Thursdays. Upcoming weeks will feature “digging” for artifacts and making pinch pots.

The fun ends July 30, so don’t miss out.

***

As the heat index climbs ever higher, you can always hang out with us in the air conditioning and play a classic board game. We have a board game club that meets 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesdays with snacks, but the games are available anytime we’re open.

***

In addition to classic board games, we also have a computer gaming club that meets Saturdays to play Minecraft and Roblox together. New players are welcome, up to age 18, and help will be available as you navigate these worlds.

***

Stitches, the library’s fiber arts group, meets 5:30 p.m. every Monday for fun, community and advice. If you’d like to take up a new hobby or make time to work on your yarn-based projects, this is the group for you.
