To the Editor:
With all the fanfare and extensive planning that was mentioned in the media, online and around the community over the past several months leading up to Independence Day, I am sorry to say the Catasauqua/North Catasauqua J4 Celebration was somewhat of a disappointment.
I am sure the excessive heat played a factor in keeping the crowds away. But regardless, the actual offerings of the event were few and far between.
There was only one band playing, less than a dozen vendors and crafters outside of the food trucks and not much in terms of family activities being offered. The children’s craft tables and games offered were too little, in my opinion.
Besides a cornhole tournament, there were no other interactive events or games offered. The basketball courts, tennis courts and sand volleyball courts were all sitting empty. Why?
There was no parade and no old-timers’ softball game. These were always staples of the event in the past.
The threat of an evening thunderstorm hampered the thrill of the fireworks display, but they were still able to be set off before the rain came. They were nice, but nothing more spectacular than other years.
With it being the 250th anniversary, I thought more would have come out of this event. I hope this event can return to its splendor in future occurrences.
