Trojans battle for LVCM playoff spot
The South Parkland Senior Connie Mack team finished off the month of June in style, earning a shutout at home to try and continue to position itself for a postseason berth.
The Trojans defeated Silver Creek 9-0 last Friday evening.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, South Parkland scored in every inning the rest of the way, notching two runs in the bottom of the second inning, one in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings, and four in the sixth.
The teams combined to commit seven errors, with the Silver Creek recording four.
Asher Huber and Chase Godusky both recorded run-scoring singles in the second for the game’s first two runs. The Trojans scored their runs in the third and fourth on Silver Creek errors.
Bishop Fritz drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth for an RBI. In the sixth, Brayden Zobel recorded an RBI double and Jake Santiago added an RBI single. South Parkland concluded the frame with two runs on a defensive error.
The Trojans finished with eight hits, led by three from Santiago, who also scored a run and had an RBI.
Brooks Wetherhold, Sam Sullivan, Huber, Godusky and Zobel added one hit. Dylan Mitchell earned the victory on the mound, throwing five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, while striking out five batters.
South Parkland improved to 8-6 overall, has two games left in the regular season portion of its schedule.
The Trojans hosted unbeaten Southern Lehigh this past Wednesday (after Press deadline) and end the season with a road game at Moore Township on Monday evening.
South Parkland headed into it’s final two games as the ninth-place team in the LV Senior Connie Mack standings. The top eight teams make the league playoffs.
