SP clinches first place in LVL
South Parkland had a bit of a stumble recently and dropped a game, but it didn’t do damage to the Trojans’ run for the top spot in the Lehigh Valley Legion standings.
South Parkland (11-2) holds a 2 ½ game lead over Lower Macungie through Tuesday’s game. With two games to play, SP has clinched the regular season championship and the top seed going into the league playoffs.
A 7-1 win over Lower Macungie went a long way toward clinching that top spot.
Andrew Bowser went 3-for-3 with a run scored and Ben Weninger hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to get the party started. Ryan Rooney had two singles with an RBI and two runs scored in the game for the Trojans.
Serving as the team’s leadoff hitter, Rooney turned an infield single into a run when he advanced to second on a wild pitch, went to third on a ground ball, and scored on the second wild pitch of the inning in the top of the third.
There was no need to go to the bullpen. Mack Parsell pitched a complete game and allowed just three hits and a walk. He struck out eight and allowed just one run in the outing.
The stumble came in a 1-0 loss to Whitehall-Coplay. Parkland collected seven hits but were unable to push a run across the plate. Whitehall had just four hits, but a sacrifice fly in the first inning was good enough for the win. An error earlier in the inning made the run unearned. Nick Bowser was 2-for-3 and Parsell doubled and drew a walk.
Andrew Bowser allowed just the one unearned run and gave up four hits over six innings.
The Trojans have games remaining against Salisbury and North Parkland to wrap up the regular season.
