So. Parkland CM team beats Hellertown, Lehigh Bethlehem

The South Parkland Senior Connie Mack baseball team extended its winning streak to three games last week before dropping its next two games.

The Trojans began last week with a 5-3 win in eight innings over Hellertown on Monday, June 8, but then fell 5-4 at Lower Macungie on Thursday and lost 14-12 at Lehigh Bethlehem on Friday.

In the victory over Hellertown, South Parkland trailed 2-0 after three innings. The Trojans got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the fourth inning and then tied the game in their last at-bats with a run in the seventh to force extras.

In the top of the eighth, SP scored three more runs and then had to hold on as the hosts added one, but could not complete the comeback.

The Trojans scored their first run thanks to a fielding error in the fourth and Jake Santiago recorded an RBI ground out in the seventh to tie the game. In the eighth, another error helped South Parkland and Dylan Mitchell added RBIs later in the frame for cushion.

Mitchell led the lineup with two hits and two RBIs. Brooks Wetherhold, Santiago and Sam Sullivan each added a hit. Jackson Wiltrout earned the win on the mound, throwing the final two innings, striking out three batters.

Against Lower Mac, SP scored the game’s opening run in the first inning, but fell behind as the Mustangs scored twice in the bottom of the frame and two more in the third.

Both teams traded a run in the fifth and then the Trojans began to chip away with two more runs in the top of the sixth, but could not make it all the way back. Seven different batters recorded a hit, including Jack Campbell, Mitchell, Chase Godusky, Andrew Berrigan, Sullivan, Bishop Fritz and Brayden Zobel.

In a high-scoring game with Lehigh Bethlehem, South Parkland scored a run in the top of the first inning. The hosts scored once in the bottom half, four times in the second and three times in the third to go ahead 8-1.

The Trojans tied the score with a seven-run fourth inning before allowing four runs in the bottom of the frame. The teams both scored two runs in the fifth and SP added two in the sixth.

Campbell finished with two hits, three RBIs and three runs scored, while both Mitchell and Zobel tallied two hits and an RBI. Berrigan and Caleb Ferrick each had a hit and two RBIs.
