NV Connie Mack beats Bombers
The Northern Valley Senior Connie Mack baseball team has had a good month of June so far.
After dropping all three of their games in May, the Chargers have won two games so far this month, including one to open up last week.
Northern Valley began last week with a 5-4 victory over Palmerton on Monday, June 8, but then lost 11-2 to Hellertown on Wednesday and fell 17-13 at North Parkland this past Saturday.
In the victory over the Blue Bombers, it was a back-and-forth game until Northern Valley finally got ahead for the final time with one run in the top of the eighth inning to secure the win.
The Chargers scored the game’s opening run in the top of the first inning, but Palmerton answered with two runs in the bottom half.
NV tied the game with a run in the third, but the Blue Bombers once again took back the lead with a run in the bottom of the frame.
Northern Valley tied the game again with a run in the fifth and then took the advantage with a run in the sixth, before the Blue Bombers tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh with their backs against the wall. The Chargers won the game on an RBI single by Nathan Kinney.
Brandon Gonzalez led the lineup going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Jacob Spatz, Tanner Fronina, Connor Hausman and Kinney all finished with two hits, with Spatz, Fronina and Kinney all adding an RBI.
Mason Malosh had a hit and two runs scored and Ryan Ebeling contributed a hit and an RBI. Hausman recorded the win on the mound, going 3.2 innings, giving up just one run, while striking out three. Malosh started and struck out seven batters.
In the game with Hellertown, NV trailed 1-0 after two innings and found itself behind 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The Chargers got their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth as Gonzalez tripled and then came home after a throwing error. In the sixth, Fronina recorded an RBI single for the second run of the game. Gonzalez and Fronina both finished with two hits and Henry Fitzgerald had one.
In the high-scoring game against the Buffaloes, Northern Valley started the game with a big first inning, scoring eight runs and then adding another in the second to go up 9-0.
North Parkland began to rally with a seven-run second inning and then scored three more in the fourth to take its first lead of the game.
The Chargers took back the lead with a three-run fifth and were on top 12-11 heading to the sixth, but the Buffaloes recorded six runs in the bottom of the sixth and gave up just one more run to NV in the seventh to hold on for the win.
Both Calvin Kulp and Gabe Markovitch led the way with three hits and two runs, with Markovitch adding three RBIs. Gonzalez tallied two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored. Spatz had a hit and three RBIs and Malosh contributed a hit and two RBIs.
Northern Valley enters this week at 2-7 overall with games against East Stroudsburg, North Bethlehem and Saylorsburg on this week’s schedule.
