LM tops Falcons, faces SP Wednesday
With just one game this past week, Lower Macungie had a chance to get ready for a late season push toward the Lehigh Valley Legion playoffs.
In their one game this week, the Mustangs put together a big inning for a 15-5 win over Salisbury.
Lower Macungie and Salisbury went back and forth on the scoreboard in their most recent meeting.
Salisbury went up 1-0 in the top of the first only to have Lower Mac come back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Aaron Fleetwood singled and Cameron Pengelly doubled with one out to put two runners in scoring position. Chase Simmons then singled through the middle to drive in both runners for a 2-1 lead.
Salisbury took its turn to battle back and put up two runs in the third on a two-rim triple with one out.
Markus Jones, who had delivered the triple was stranded at third as Pengelly worked out of the jam.
Fleetwood was in the middle of the scoring again in the bottom of the third when he delivered a one-out double to left field and then scored on a single by Simmons that tied the score 3-3.
After Salisbury put up two runs in the top of the fourth, the Mustangs had enough toying around. They sent 16 hitters to the plate in the bottom of the fourth and scored nine runs in the inning.
The inning started with five straight singles including a two-run single from Ryan Hummel and an RBI single from Robbie Barnes to give Macungie a 6-5 advantage.
One out later, Pengelly came through with another single to bring in a run and a balk by pitcher Talon Legitt allowed another run to score for an 8-5 Mustangs lead. Two walks loaded the bases with two outs and Jaden Betz kept the inning alive with a double to center that emptied the bases. A walk and an error again loaded the bases and Hummell took four pitches out of the strike zone for an easy RBI and a 12-5 Mustangs lead.
Lower Mac scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and two in the sixth to end the game on the 10-run rule after six innings.
Pengelly went 3-for-3 against Salisbury while scoring twice and driving in a run. Ryan Hummell went 2-for-3 while driving in four runs. Fleetwood was 2-for-3 in the win and scored three times.
Simmons (2-for-2) drove in three runs. Jaden Betz (2-foor-2) scored three times and knocked in two runs. Ben Roth (2-for-2) and Connor Horwath (2-for-4) were also among the seven Mustangs that had two or more hits against the Falcons.
Four Lower Mac pitchers took the mound in the win, with Robbie Barnes earning the win after pitching two innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit. He struck out two batters and walked one.
Cole Moreau (2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 K, 3 BB), Pengelly (1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 K, 1 BB) and Simmons (1 IP, 1 H, 3K) also pitched against the Falcons.
Lower Macungie (6-2) has a busier week this week with three games, including Wednesday’s matchup at Church Lane against South Parkland (9-1) in a battle of the top two teams in the league.
