Emmaus Sr. CM gets back-to-back wins
The Emmaus Senior Connie Mack team needed to get some positive momentum going after falling in seven of its first eight games of the regular season, including six in a row.
The Hornets did just that with back-to-back victories while scoring in double figures in both games.
Emmaus (3-7) shutout Pen Argyl/Bangor 14-0 in four innings last Wednesday and then followed that with an 11-7 victory against Palmerton.
In the win over Pen Argyl/Bangor, the Hornets got out ahead big early and never looked back, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and then adding six more in the second and five in the fourth.
Taydan Tull had the big day at the plate, driving in four runs, including a three-run home run to left field in the top of the first inning and an RBI double in the second.
In the big six-run second, Jack Smith and Dellin Rodriguez both had RBI singles, while Tull and Cayden Fick each recorded RBI doubles.
Braiden Marshall tallied a run-scoring sacrifice fly. In the fourth, Davey Schmidt and Josh Knecht each notched RBI singles and Bryson Benner also had an RBI. Knecht also earned the victory on the mound, allowing two hits.
In the victory against the Blue Bombers, Emmaus actually trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but scored its first run in the second. Palmerton went back on top with a five-run third inning and once again the Green Hornets answered with a five-run inning of their own in the fourth.
After the Blue Bombers added another run in the bottom of the fourth to take a 7-6 lead, Emmaus once again scored five runs in the top of the seventh to earn the win. Jake French recorded an RBI in the second and another in the fourth, along with Fick, Benner and Nolan Miller in the frame.
In the seventh, Schmidt put his team back on top with a two-run single and then Bryce Andrew also tallied a two-run single later in the inning.
Schmidt, Knecht and Miller all finished with two hits, while Marshall, Andrew, French, Benner and Brayden Heller all added a hit. Benner picked up the win on the mound, throwing the final 1.2 innings of shutout ball.
