Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley has new Family Room
The Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley (PCFLV) has celebrated the expansion of its headquarters with the opening of The Family Room.
The expanded space is to provide additional support for families dealing with children with cancer.
The grand opening and Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce ribbon-cutting was June 3 for The Family Room at the headquarters of the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, 4501 Crackersport Road, South Whitehall Township.
According to a PCFLV press release, “More than just an addition to a building, The Family Room was thoughtfully created to serve as a second home for families navigating pediatric cancer, a welcoming place where children, parents and siblings can gather for support programs, special events, friendship and moments of happiness during some of life’s most difficult circumstances.”
The press release stated that PCFLV is grateful for the community partners who helped bring The Family Room to life, including MKSD Architects, Jerdon Construction, and the donors and supporters who contributed to the “Together, We Shine Capital Campaign.”
“For many families, the pediatric cancer journey can feel isolating,” stated the press release. “The Family Room helps change that by creating a dedicated space where families can connect with others who truly understand their experiences while building lasting memories together outside of hospitals and treatment rooms.”
“This space represents so much more than walls and furniture,” said Michelle Zenie Rounds, Executive Director of PCFLV and cancer mom.
“It’s a place where families can walk through the doors and immediately feel understood, supported and at home. We wanted to create a space that brings comfort and connection to families who spend so much of their lives inside hospitals and medical settings,” Rounds said.
The Family Room will host many of PCFLV’s free programs and services, including support groups, family events, children and teen activities, parents’ nights, bereavement programs and holiday celebration.
The addition also has an expanded Toy Room filled with community-donated toys for cancer children and their siblings.
Guests attending the grand-opening celebration toured the new space and enjoyed ice cream from the Milk Train dessert truck, refreshments and beverages, a collaborative community art project, and face-painting for children.
Founded in 2004, the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley provides free financial, social and emotional support to families affected by pediatric cancer in the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas.
From providing scholarships and support groups to organizing family events and distributing meals and gift cards, PCFLV stands by local pediatric cancer families at every stage of their journey.
