Edwin L. Ziegler
Edwin L. Ziegler, 93, formerly of Slatington and Orefield, died June 6 at Liza’s House Personal Care Home in Danielsville, where he was residing.
He was the husband of Adele L. (Leibenguth), to whom he was married 72 years last October.
Born in Woxall, Montgomery County, he was the son of the late Earl Young and Clara (Engle).
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era.
At the age of 22, he entered the business world.
He owned and operated the former Ziegler’s Hauling Service in Slatington from 1954 to 2006.
Concurrently, he was employed by Allen Products Company (ALPO), Allentown.
Hired in 1956 by the company’s founder, he held various positions within the company including laborer, plant manager and for many years was the vice president of Manufacturing with his tenure ending in 1982.
Active in the life of his community, he was a member of the Rotary Club of Slatington and served as club president in 1978, during which time he proudly attended the Rotary International Convention in Tokyo, Japan.
He was honored to be a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary Foundation.
In addition, he held memberships in many local organizations including American Legions, VFW Posts, Loyal Order of the Moose, Copeechan Fish and Game Club, Schnecksville Fire Co., and Emerald Star Hose Fire Co.
He also enjoyed attending multiple Grundsau Lodsch Banquets every year.
In addition to his loving wife; he is survived by son, Edwin L., Jr. (Jean) of Slatington; daughter, Kathleen J. (Edward Yesik) of Slatington; sister, Janice Ahner (widow of Harry) of Slatington; grandchildren, Tiffany Yesik (Brandon), Kaitlyn Yesik, Joseph Edwin Yesik; great-grandson, Weston; step grandchildren, Paula Schoener (Dan), Mick Weber (Robin) and their families; sisters-in-law, Margie and Linda; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by siblings, Burton, Phyllis Muthard, Roland.
Funeral services were held June 15 at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, with Pastor Randy Lentz officiating.
Interment with military honors followed the service at Union Cemetery of Slatington.
The family would like to acknowledge and extend their gratitude to the entire staff at Liza’s House Personal Care Home for their compassionate care which Ed received during the past several years.
