A new Salisbury Township Police Department officer has taken his oath of office.
Salisbury Township police officer Levi King was sworn in by Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners President Debra J. Brinton at the June 25 commissioners’ meeting.
“He completed 992 hours of training at the police academy and graduated with several honors,” Salisbury Township Chief of Police Donald Sabo said of King.
In other business at the Jan. 25 meeting, commissioners voted 5-0 to approve:
- A resolution authorizing and approving a grant submission to the Pennsylvania Department of Economic Development Multi-Modal Transportation Fund Program for traffic safety improvements to Lehigh Street in the amount of $1,370,000.
The funds would go toward the purchase and installation of traffic intersection improvements along Lehigh Street at Regent Way and Bevin Drive, including signalization, thermal plastic line painting and ADA access for intersections, sidewalks and crosswalks to assist in pedestrian safety.
Commissioner Allison Leayman made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Alok Patnaik, to bring the motion to a vote.
- Motion to approve a request for a temporary residency waiver. The 10-mile radius requirement pertains to a township employee.
Commissioner Heather Lipkin made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Alok Patnaik, to bring the motion to a vote.
- Motion to authorize the advertisement of the hearing to adopt the township Comprehensive Plan.
The hearing is expected to be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 13 in the meeting room, municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
“I read the entire comprehensive plan. I feel it’s very good. I like a lot of the recommendations,” Brinton said.
“A survey was sent out to residents,” said Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Gorman.
“I’d like to thank you, Cathy [Gorman], Heather [Lipkin] and Kerry [Rabold, Salisbury Township Director of Community Development] and everyone involved,” said Karol of those who worked on the plan.
Patnaik made the motion, seconded by Lipkin, to bring the motion to a vote.
